Thanksgiving is the biggest day of the year for many Food Is Medicine Coalition (FIMC) agencies. This Thursday, across the country, thousands of volunteers will gather to deliver special holiday meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. Meals are often delivered in bags hand-decorated by communities of support and come with a smile and a sense of belonging. Many agencies will offer an additional meal to clients so that they can share the generosity of the season and invite someone to break bread with them in gratitude.
The healing power of this wonderful tradition was featured in Medscape this week, with several FIMC agencies submitting recipes and highlights of their missions and services. At FIMC, we know that when someone is sick and hungry, appetite can be one of the first things to go. Our meals have to be extra delicious – in addition to nutritious and right for a client’s diagnoses – to make the recipe list. And these recipes do not disappoint.
